Overview

A lap joint flange is a loose backing flange used with a separate stub end or lapped pipe end. The stub end is welded or otherwise joined to the pipe, while the backing flange remains free to rotate before bolting. The gasket seats against the stub-end face, not against the backing-flange bore.
